Lauren Stanford was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1987. After taking ceramic courses at Colorado State University, Lauren unexpectedly found a connection with clay. Lauren graduated and returned to Alaska in 2010 where she began commercial fishing with her family in Bristol Bay. After getting the itch to work with clay again, she started taking ceramic classes in 2013.
She has numerous pieces shown in the Student Union Gallery, including multiple Foundations Shows, 2D/3D Invitational, Claybody Invitational, and selections in the 2015 and 2017 Student Juried Shows. Her sculpture, Impact, was chosen for a Hugh McPeck Award in 2017. Lauren’s thesis show, Of Hope and Creatures: An Allegory, opened in April 2018 in the Kimura Gallery on UAA’s campus.
Lauren received her BFA in Ceramics from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2018. She is currently an Artist in Residence at the Mendocino Art Center in California.
